Those that have seen Extraction know that Chris Hemsworth’s character, Tyler Rake, is shot through the neck at the end of the movie. Coughing up blood, he falls into a river, seemingly dying. At the end of the movie, however, a short scene shows what looks to be Rake, but the video quality is too distorted to really tell.

The director of Extraction, Sam Hargrave, recently revealed that the movie’s ending was changed close to release. Originally, Rake’s death was certain, and the movie left no room for viewers to believe or be uncertain about whether he died or not.
Hargrave says that he preferred the original ending, claiming that it was more intellectually satisfying, but the decision to change was made after testing showed that viewers would prefer the more emotionally satisfying conclusion of Rake living. The ending that fans got was a bit of a compromise there, as it still isn’t entirely clear whether he is actually alive or not.
Extraction is available now exclusively on Netflix.
