Rome, of course, wasn’t built in a day, and neither are wars. In Expeditions: Rome, players will need to lead large armies across the campaign map in addition to their own party in order to conquer territory and gain access to more resources. One of the largest obstacles to these conquests will of course be the armies met along the way, but the player will have many tools at hand to deal with these threats.

Choosing Commanders

The first and most important part of any legion is the commander. Players can choose from a selection of commanders at a barracks, which is marked with a tent icon when in a player controlled camp. The player will have access to four commanders at a time, and once one is purchased, it will be replaced with a new one with different stats. It is advised to have multiple commanders in a wide variety of roles and skills in order to maintain flexibility on the battlefield.

Once the player has their commanders, they are free to challenge armies out in the world, whether that be through sieges or encounters across the battle map. Once a player is in a Legion Battle, they will need to choose from a selection of Stratagems to gain the upper hand on their opponent.

Stratagems & Battle Tactics

Stratagems are selected randomly from a deck, and the player gets to choose from three of them. The player can unlock more Stratagems at the player camp if their tactics start to feel like they are getting stale.

Once the player has selected a Stratagem, their forces will begin to enact the orders. The player is free to watch this play out in real time, or they can proceed to the next step. Throughout the rest of the battle, the player will be met with certain complications that they will need to address. Like to before, they will be given a choice of cards to choose from to determine tactics.

Generally, players should make sure to balance casualties with aggressiveness. If the enemy is of a weaker force, it may be more beneficial to perform more aggressive tactics. If the player finds themselves outnumbered, they may want to focus more on any defensive options. The player is able to see exactly how their action will play out just by hovering over the card, so make sure to take a look at every one to make the best decision available.
